Purple Martin Educational Programs

 

            The Purple Martin, the largest of the North American swallows, is a popular tenant of backyard birdhouses. In parts of North America they have nested almost exclusively in nest boxes for more than 100 years. Not only will these beautiful birds provide enjoyment to their backyard hosts, but aerial insectivore, their diet is exclusively insect that fly in the air.

            Beginning in January, educational programs will be offered for residents who would like to learn how to attract, maintain and enjoy the company of the Purple Martin.

            The free programs will be held at the Betty Warmack Branch Library, 760 Bardin Road, Grand Prairie, Texas, from 7-9 pm on the first Thursday of the month, January through July. For more information please call 972-237-8100.
